Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 1,296: Lexicon.

So the ballpoint pens that Planet Fitness gives away have purple ink.

This came as a surprise to me when I sat down at lunch to start sketching. Undeterred, I decided right away that I would draw Spyro the Dragon, as he’s the only purple dragon I know of offhand. There are some uncommon D&D dragons, but that would have required more research than I was willing to put in.

As it was, looking for references took longer than I thought it would, and I remembered that I don’t actually like Spyro- something about his attitude rubs me the wrong way, though I’ve played Skylanders and didn’t hate it (it’s a little too easy and too much of an investment for my tastes).

With nothing else to go on and a couple of purple pens in my hand, I quickly Googled “purple dragon,” with less than satisfactory results. There’s a whole lot of companies of various types that use the name, and Urban Dictionary has a couple of unsavory “definitions” of the phrase.

Anyhow, I’m rambling because I’m tired:

I either got too ambitious or was too hard on myself- The face was coming along quite nicely when I decided to put scales on the neck- it was looking, well, naked alongside the intricately- lined face there. But then in the interests of not being up all night and probably more than a little fatigue from drawing the head, I started drawing the large ovoid scales that didn’t quite fit together and got frustrated, because it wasn’t looking as good, so I quit while I was ahead.

And that’s it for tonight. Jeez, even the title made more sense 2 hours ago.
