Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 355

I’m tired, a wee bit cranky and up way later than I ought to be. I didn’t feel up to muddling my way through rectangles tonight, so I tried a different shape- the merciless hexagon.

Hexagons are tough to draw, but oddly inspiring!

Surprisingly, I had a good time with this; if I hadn’t been so tired, I might have kept going on to another page. And I’ve no idea why hexagons are so hard for me to draw, they just are.

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 354

So now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I can get back to this headshape thing. Not that I’ve really decided on any sort of rules for it, but I guess I’ll just try to come up with stuff. Since I’ve become a bit stymied by squares, I guess I’ll move on to rectangles:

Rectangles, it seems, are ^somehow a bit duller more challenging than squares…

Hmm. This isn’t quite as much fun as I thought it might be, though the three on the bottom (which I did last) were the result of stretching my way of thinking, which is, of course, the purpose of this exercise- I find myself working mostly with straight lines when I’m doing these heads-in-a-box, regardless of the base shape.

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 353

I found myself oddly fascinated with the box sketch from last night, even if it wasn’t strictly a geometric head. So I tried to fancy it up a bit and started (only just) thinking about what other parts might look like, but I didn’t get very far:

It kind of seems more like some sort of trap than a full-0n dragon. I don’t know how much farther I will take this one.

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 352

I first thought of leaving this as *just* the box at right, but got worries that the drawing was somehow "not enough dragon."

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 351

So I haven’t thought of any rules yet, instead pressing onward to an additional side:

Macejaw Dragons have squarish heads. But squares don’t seem to be as conducive to dragon-drawing as triangles (go figure).

Obviously, the angles and overall sleeker shape of the triangle lends itself more to drawing a typically predatory creature, or any reptile, really… squares don’t occur much in nature. Sigh. I may have to rethink this a bit.

I’m also surprised at how long it’s been since I’ve done anything with a Macejaw; used to be that I could pull one out of my head without thinking at all about where the pieces went. I should maybe revisit some of my previous creations, methinks.

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 350

I ended up being lazy and headachey this Sunday, so I didn’t get to (read as: feel like) painting.

I may also need to rethink the rules of this geometry project, such as they are.

Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 349

Assuming our dragons still follow most basic natural laws (in order for them to be easier to suspend disbelief with), the triangle-shaped head implies a triangular prism[*], and not just a head that fits in a triangle shape

But alas, perspective has never been an ally of mine… :/

*a bit of Googling later, I found that I actually meant (for the most part) a tetrahedron, though in some cases a triangular prism would probably have sufficed as well, especially since it’s easier to draw.
