Although I’m feeling a little tired and uninspired (a day at work followed by a Friday night of laundry and housework), I managed to focus long enough to do this:
While idly sketching around, I came up with a sort of abstract shape for the face and the armor that leaned out over it, so I ran with it. At first, the face would have been scaleless, but it seemed a bit incongruous (though I suppose the argument could be made that the skin of the face might be softer because of the heavy plating on the head), considering that I had put down some scales on the neck. On the whole, I like the way that they came out, though I wish I’d come up with a more natural-looking transition from large facial scales to smaller body scaling. Ah, well.
I also like the fact that the scales overlap towards the head; that’s something that I can’t ever recall doing, and I think that it worked okay. The sternum seemed too deep, then I made the chest lower and not as deep, but then it just looked wrong, so I fixed it, er, put it back.
