Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 993: Lather, Rinse, Overthink.

I tried to go through the same process as last night (I had actually planned to take tonight off entirely after nearly falling out at work), but got caught up in the details, which goes completely against the idea.

I found myself looking at reference pictuers of lizards- the different… groupings of scales on a lizard’s hide (the “hide” part is important, see later) always kind of baffles me, and I felt like I should know this by now.

You see, if there’s one thing that you can take away from the years that I’ve been rattling around and doing this is that most reptiles don’t have a continuous, even pattern of scales across their entire bodies. Scales get larger and smaller depending on where they’re located. In fact, in some spots there won’t be any scales at all, just a few scattered across a bit of pebbly hide. It’s almost as if God or Evolution or whomever just decided “no one will notice or care if I just make the scales bigger here” or “eh, fuck it, that’s enough coverage.”

However, getting caught up in the details of that went counterpoint to the “Grab A Big Black Pencil and Draw” movement, but at least I learned/realized/shared something useful tonight.
