I started with the top sketch, thinking to do something Interloper-esque, but found myself feeling not quite stymied but definitely stuck, mainly because I found myself considering some of the views expressed in Matt Kaplan’s The Science of Monsters, and felt like I was mining snake and spider fear, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but my initial idea, such as it was, was definitely dancing along that line of “it’s a dragon because I say so.” Also, I wanted to do some kind of massive insectile wingspan and I had no idea what the body should be like.
The page felt a bit empty with just the head and neck there, so I added the other as filler.
