Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 1,315: Around the Horn.

So Tad Williams started a conversation thread on Facebook about dragon horns, and a friend linked me to it. This had me thinking about possible origins of horned dragons. Horned vipers and toad brows came to mind, though goats and bulls might also have had some influence. And of course, horned carnivorous dinosaurs are also a thing. Some people have attributed the legend of the dragon to a primal “snake fear” that all humans have, but it’s probably more like “dinosaur fear” or something.

So I started looking at various creatures, and got a little wrapped up in the tiny scales that decorate a snake’s face:
