Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 85

A wyvern or wivern is a legendary winged reptilian creature with a dragon’s head, wings and forelegs, but with only a barbed tail to its rear half.

That’s forelegs, not “birdlike hindlegs,” as many of my contemporaries have depicted the creature with. I must concede that it makes the thing a lot simpler to pose when it’s got legs like a bird, and it’s even a bit like the way that they are depicted in heraldry, but you can’t really argue with the facts.

Well, the facts as they are described by Wikipedia, anyways:

It seems a little more like a winged amphitere, which is kind of baffling since I had such a hard time drawing it. (I think it was because I kept thinking “wyvern” but trying to draw forelegs.) But it’s good for a first draft. I may revisit the idea later.

PS: I will be upstate for the next few days and possibly without Internet. If that’s the case, expect a flood of posts when I get back.
