So on my trip to Boston, I was talking with someone about my daily dragon sketches, and, as conversations like this often go, I showed her my sketchbook. I’ve recently started a new book (and really ought to get around to taking a picture of the other books; I’ve been meaning to do that for a little while now), so there wasn’t much to show, but she was interested in knowing how long it takes to do something like the Sawtooth Dragon from earlier this week.
Offhandedly, I replied something to the effect of “I dunno, maybe 15-20 minutes?” She was impressed, if not amazed; she was most interested in knowing how long it took to draw the teeth. This still strikes me as funny.
So while trying to come up with what to draw tonight (a process that can easily take 2-4 times as long), I thought of that conversation and then drew this.
If I were getting lap dances while drawing it, it’d probably have cost less than $60 before tips. I didn’t keep exact time, but I know two and a half songs went by before I put the pencil down to draw this: Godsmack’s “I Stand Alone,” Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and maybe a minute and 20 seconds of Harry Connick Jr’s “Please Come Home For Christmas.” (What? I was listening to Pandora on shuffle.)
So yeah, I can draw pretty fast sometimes when I want or need to. I’m wondering if I should tag this “lap dances,” but I’m worried what the spambots will do with it, and really, I’m fairly certain that the subject won’t come up again too soon, but that’s stream-of-consciousness writing on about 10 hours of sleep in 2 days. Filters aren’t quite what they could be.
G’night.
