Dragon-A-Day, Day 62

I was waxing philosophical about things like draconic expressive ranges, which I briefly explored in yesterday’s post, and courtship/mating practices, especially when compared to relatively short-lived creatures, like most humanoids. I didn’t really come to any sort of conclusions that I wanted to get into here, but it was part of my thought process today.

And on top of that, I didn’t have anything to draw for those, despite all my ponderings today, (though maybe there’ll be something down the line, if you’re lucky,) so here is another dragon from my draconity queue.

“gdcm” writes:

Style (Eastern, Western, Anthro, ophidian, other): Western Feral
Relative size and build: 21 Ft. long, lightly muscular
Horns (number, style): 6. two normal black horns that face back on the top of my head, and 4 in sets of 2 on my far rear jaw bone.
wings (include number of wing-fingers, if possible) standard wing 4 fingers
Accouterments (back spikes, head frills, beard): medium sized dorsal spines that run the length of my body, and a tail spade.
Any other distinguishing features (scars, funny hats, surprise me): Burgundy heavy plate scales, some scales might have hairline cracks- the heavy scales on my shoulders and sides, and the cracks are on the side plate scales

I had originally meant for the hands to be gripping the edge of the cliff, to make it more intense. I failed at that, and badly. I probably should have asked about the relative size and shape of the spines in hindsight- they seem a little large, but I’m not sure. For some reason, this dragon’s proportions threw me. I’m still not sure if the head is too large or the neck too short, and the hands (my nemesis for the evening,) kept coming out too big. They were almost pawlike.

And don’t get me started on the scales. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t get them right. By “sides,” I assumed that he meant “flanks-” it seemed to make sense when I read it, but when I sat down to do it, it didn’t line up on paper. In either case, there’s a reason that many of my dragons aren’t covered in scaly patterning- because it’s hard, and doesn’t always read (or line up) that well.

Bah. I just need to get out of my comfort zone.
