Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 1,075: A Difference of Opinion.

So while I was at that Tony Awards party last night, someone asked what I was doing while I was drawing. I replied that I have a sketchblog, which led to the explanation that it had nothing to do with sketch comedy, though that would be interesting in and of itself.

When I started to explain why I was drawing Godzilla, and the idea of the definition of “dragon” getting blurry over time and through usage, one of the party guests sagely interjected:

“if it’s a dragon and it doesn’t have wings, it’s a dinosaur.”

I might have explained how that’s not exactly the case, but just then, someone on the stage Did A Thing, and all attention was on the awards show. Therefore my silent rebuttal:

06092014 - A Difference of Opinion.

I had a minor not-quite-epiphany while grinding out the scales on this one- I’m not just filling the dragon’s flanks with a texture; I should be adding depth and showing the overall orientation of the body when I am adding these kinds of scales.  I’m not sure how to handle it yet, but some sort of construction lines would probably help keep things oriented properly as well as keep the scales more uniform.

However, I realized all that shortly after my hand started cramping, so I’ll keep it in mind for next time.
