Some mistakes were made. In order for this to feel at all dragony (at least to me), I added the ear towards the end so it would be less of a bejeweled serpent.

While the background wasn’t necessary to add personality or relevance (it looks grumpy either way, and the smoke trailing from its nostrils suggests “dragon”) in this case, it went a ways toward putting the dragon someplace:
